Description

Overview

Create a role that allows an org member to post to a blog.

This task has changed to an Outside Contributor role (see this comment: T734#14677). Submission-related aspects of this have moved to T864: Org member: submit for review.

Implementation

Restrictions

User can't edit or delete other people's posts. User can't change blog settings. (user request, +1)

Options

User can either publish directly to the blog or submit posts to an internal submission queue. Perhaps different roles:

  • Author: can publish directly to blog - T738: Author role
  • Contributor: can submit to internal submission queue

Also, this might involve some kind of integration with Submit.as (it's a fuzzy idea).

We're going to use this as an internal role designation, to solve a need from #fight_back_news and #forces_unseen (another early Org user): blog contributors that don't need a full account.

Implementation

Org Admins and Editors will be able to create a "Contributor" or "Outside Author," which is an Author-level role, but without an actual Write.as account backing it. This will allow them to add article bylines that are associated with a single, consistent source.

Beyond that (T865), we should allow someone to associate a Write.as account with a Contributor, converting it into a functional Author org member.

Note: Contributors will not count toward an org's total user count.
